The design may be embroidered in one of the following colors: white, gray, pale blue or beige. The motif design is shown in Fig. 5. The explanation for the part of the design which appears as the "trunk" and "branches” of this motif shall be given in the next issue. SATIN STITCH "NASTYLUVANNIA” Satin stitch which is embroidered so as to lie parallel to the threads of the fa bric and which is worked by counting the threads of the fabric as shown in Fig 6 is called "LYSHTVA”. It is an easy and pleasant method of embroidery. It has an ancient tradition in Ukraine and is still used, mostly in areas of central Ukraine. Diagnal satin stitch is done as shown in Fig. 4. As you can see, each em broidery thread lies on an exact diagonal of the weave of the fabric. The main part of the designs of 3a & b is done in red, the additional stitches are done in black. These examples show us how beautifully we can apply our native embroidery, in all its various traditional forms, to modern use in clothing for our children and for ourselves. Let’s embroider!
