We be lieve that meeting you will strengthen our national con sciousness and our pride in belonging to an undefeated people. We are sure that the suffereings which you endured without breaking have not been in vain, but like a noble seed will blossom into a joyful future for our free Ukraine. With sincere respect, The UNWLA Executive Board MOTRIA KUSHNIR WOMAN VIEWS & NEWS IN W OMAN'S WORLD A growing number of American men neither hold nor seek jobs; instead, they are choosing to work at home cooking, mending, washing and taking care of children. According to Business Week magazine, the number of househusbands has increased by a dramatic 71% over the past nine years. “More married students, other young husbands and middle-aged men are stay ing home and letting their wives earn the paycheck." This bit of news is, of course, interesting in itself. But what we really liked is the idea that when the male partner is the "houseperson” he “lets” the spouse “earn the paycheck'" Well, golly gee, and we had thought all this time that the breadwinner was at least the nominal head of any household. When will we ever get it right? The Air Force has officially recognized motherhood within its own ranks. Last summer this branch of the military introduced a maternity uniform. The 3-piece, dark blue ensemble allows the wearer to combine a tunic with a blouse and either a skirt or pants. Before that, pregnant members of the service had to switch to civilian clothes when their military garb no longer fit. “All our feedback is very good the women seem to like it,” reports Maj. Douglas Kennett, an Air Force spokesman in Washington. The options are somewhat limited if the Air Force women do not like the new maternity clothes since, as Maj. Kennett points out: “The wearing of the uniform is a mandatory item if you’re pregnant.” The major said that the Air Force has 47,000 women on active duty and estimates that “just under 10% are pregnant at one time.” Since the Air Force’s pioneering step, the Navy has also brought out a maternity uniform. The Army—traditionally the most conservative of the services—has the question under study. Who was that masked raider? Police in Cologne, Germany, are on the lookout for “Red Zora," a woman who claims to be the female equivalent of “Zorro.” Per haps also a distant cousin of Robin Hood, this fearless bandit robs sex shops, so far making off with about $50,000. worth of goods. Leaving leaflets signed “Red Zora," the thief claims to be the "Avenger of the Oppressed.” Says Red Zora in her leaflet: “What is described as love today is nothing more than the domi nation of women by men... The pornographers want to use our bodies to make their profits.” The sex shop owners are neither amused nor edified. They have offered a $1,500. reward for her capture — with or without, we presume, her band of merry maids. Other news from Germany is that feminists won a victory of sorts in their case against Stern magazine. The editorial staff of Emma — Germany’s version of Ms magazine — brought suit against Stern, one of
