Many women are mothers, some by choice some by chance. Some like it, some don’t. Some realize the enourmous responsibility of bringing children into the world, others don’t. Women who stay at home till their children marry are not all necessarily good mothers, nor all who work all their lives are bad mothers. Behind the mystical curtain of motherhood hide many wonderful courageous acts of unselfish love as well as many sins, grevious sins committed in that name. But that is life. Our life on this earth is shaped by everchanging so cial and economic situations to which we must adjust if we are to survive. Many times it depends on radical means. The best we can do is not to pass blind judge ments but to analyze situations, present possible alter natives and above all — try to understand. A letter to our museum c/o Marie Schust — Museum Director April 20, 1977 Dear Marie: The experience of visiting your Ukrainian Museum was most in teresting. You have done marvelous job as director, in setting your displays, your store, your equipment for showing films, and escorting people throughout the museum areas. I want to personally thank you for your gracious guidance in the museum and for the lovely refreshments, the hospitality that was extended to us, and for making it possible for us to ex perience the folk art of the marvelous Ukrainian people. I treasure my book of Ukrainian Easter Egg designs. When I saw the film and how the designs were made, I simply mar veled at the skill and the intricacy of the designs that can be created so beautifully by your experienced arts in this field. As we are just designing our museum for the Mormon Church in Salt Lake City, I am just a little aware of the great effort you have put into that lovely facility. Again, I wish to congratulate you on a great job well done and thank you for a lovely afternoon. Very sincerly, (Mrs.) Florence S. Jacobsen of the National Council of Women and Curator of the Mormon Church. Florence Jacobsen — cu ra to r o f the M orm on Museum visiting U krainian Museum & museum gide I. W olosansky Ukrainian Museum In The News The Easter program at the Ukrainian Museum was extensively covered by the news media of the metro politan area. The coverage was diverse, ranging from information being transmitted on the electronic news- board at Times Square, to a write up in the ’’Goings on about Town” section of the prestigeous "New Yorker” magazine. Television coverage included WNBC’s ’’The Sunday Show” moderated by Ponchitta Pierce, WABC’s ’’Eyewitness News” with Anna Bond the ABC "Commu nity Bulletin Board” and WPIX’s ’’New York, New York” and "Black and White Ethnic Neighborhood Journal”. This Easter exhibit was written up in such weekly maga zines as "Cue”, "New York”, "The New Yorker”, as well as magazines serving New York’s tourist trade: "Host”, "The New York Visitor”, "Where”, and New York City’s Convention and visitors spring bulletin, ’’New York in the Spring". The most extensive coverage was given by newspapers, with a total of 31 articles and feature stories. Among the New York papers which covered the exhibit were the "New York Times, "New York Daily News”, ’’New York Post", "Newsday” (Long Island) ’’The Villager”, ’’Village Voice”, "Gramercy Herald”, ’’Our Town”, "Town and Village", "Senior Summary”, ’’Staten Island Advance” and of course the Ukrainian "Svoboda". The coverage in the ’’Weekend Guide” section of the Community’s "New York Times” resulted in attendancy records being broken. New Jersey newspapers writing about the exhibit were the ’’Jersey Journal”, ’’Newark Star-Ledger”, ’’The Record”, ’’Passaic-Clifton Herald News”, "The Hudson Dispatch” and the ’’Paterson Evening News”. The Westchester-Rockland newspaper chain covered the exhibit in the following newspapers: — "The Herald Statesman”, Larchmont and Mamaroneck — ’’The Daily Times”, Mt. Vernon — ’’The Daily Argus”, Rye — ’’The Daily Item”, Tarrytown & Irvingron, NY — ’’The Daily News”, New Rochelle — "Standard Star”, and "White Plains Reporter-Dispatch”. One of the most important achievements of this initial Easter program at the Ukrainian Museum is that it not only acquainted many Americans with Ukrainian Easter Eggs and Ritual Breads, but also made them realize that the Ukrainian culture does not end with the Hopak. As Nancy gruber of WPIX’s, ’’New York, New York” televi sion show stated, ”... this is a rare exhibition of both art and tradition”. The publicity and promotion for this Easter program was handled by Natalia Chytra-Rybak assisted by Daria Bajko, Oksana Bajko, Mary Cymbalista, Mary Anna Kadylak, Motria Kushnir, Ulana IInytsky, Ulana Stanko and the museum staff. 26 НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ, ТРАВЕНЬ 1977 Видання C оюзу Українок A мерики - перевидано в електронному форматі в 2012 році .
