My laughter's young and frivolous: an echo of long forgotten arias. A playful sunbeam in a dungeon's darkness: is it a messenger from distant fairyland? is it a ticket for the sunward journey? Yet human eyes light up with sudden hope, and human body feels a joyful tremor. I laugh, for you, my friend, are but a wind, and there is danger in your tempting whirlpool. My ship — it is not powered by the winds — — but to be out of cabin's stuffy air — o, what a joy to stand there on the deck and have the playful wind in one's own hair. I laugh: my laughter — frivolous and young — revived by you from ancient sheets of music. Quite innocent — this play, this little flame. But won't, indeed, this small electric spark, this sudden burst of fire out of straw, this youful wind put all my world ablaze? 1971 Translated from Ukrainian Conference in Mexico June 18 is slated to see the opening of a United Nations sponsored conference for women in Mexico City, Acting within the framework of the International Women's Year, it will work to secure equal political, economic and social rights for women. Since 1945 the United Nations has been trying through various means to shape world opinion towards those goals. In an article in this issue Mrs. Helen Prociuk, who will be representing the World Federation of Ukrainian Women's Organizations at the United Nation's conference, explains more fully its aims and plans. The conference is scheduled to be held in two phases — official — to which are invited the representatives of governments, various agencies, international and national organizations which have advisory boards with the United Nations; and the unofficial — consisting of women's organizations, community groups and interested individuals — men and women — whose job will be to act as a lobby group exerting pressures upon the program of the conference. A preliminary plan of the conference shows a pro posed "World Plan of Action", which has as its primary objective the necessity to establish equality between men and women and as its outcome include women in all the phases of economic, political and social workings of any given country.
