In conclusion, w e m a y su rm ise th a t th er e h a s been v e r y little ch a n g e in th e sta tu s o f w om en ’s organ ization s in th e S o v ie t U n i on sin ce 1918. T here are som e s lig h t ex tern a l ch a n g es in th e str u c tu r es to fa c ilita te com m u n ication w ith th e W estern W orld. W e should n o t be m isled b y th e s e e ffo r ts — th e y seem to lack sin c erity , th e r e is m u ch con fu sion and th e y are incon- g ru en t w ith th e d em ocratic prin ciples g o v er n in g w estern w o m en ’s organ ization s. U K RA INIAN CATHOLIC WOMEN’S LEAGUE OF CANADA T he U k rain ian C atholic W om en ’s L eagu e o f Canada, founded in 1944, held it s 10th C ongress from June 30 to Ju ly 4, 1971 in Toronto, O ntario. T h is la rg e U k rain ian w om en ’s organ ization h a s bran ch es in fiv e Canadian ep archies and num bers 7,000 m em bers. T he con feren ce p rogram in cluded tw o panel d iscu ssio n s on ideological and organ ization al top ics. T here w ere a num ber o f social g a th e r in g s and a banquet h osted b y th e c ity o f Toronto, d urin g w h ich th e d istin g u ish e d sen ior m em b ers o f th e UCWLC w ere honored. A h ig h lig h t o f th e C ongress w a s an ex h ib itio n o f U k rain ian fo lk a rt and c h il dren’s litera tu re. Dr. S te fa n ia P otocka o f York- tow n , Sask., w as elected p resi dent o f th e L eague. S he is a noted civic leader in Canada, a form er o ffic e r o f th e W om en P h y sic ia n s O rganization, and a m em ber o f th e C ity Council o f Y or’ktow n. Dr. P o to c ka served fo r m an y y ea r s in variou s o ffic ia l cap acities in th e L eagu e and in reco g n itio n fo r her w ork in th e C h ristian la y m ovem en t received one o f th e h ig h e s t reco g n itio n s b estow ed b y th e H oly F ath er. UNW LA CONVENTION WAS HELD IN USA T he 16th C onvention o f th e U k rain ian N a tio n a l W om en’s L eagu e o f A m erica w a s held on M ay 21-23, 1971 in K erhonkson, N . Y. T a k in g p art in th e pro ceed in gs w ere 120 d eleg a te s from b ran ch es across th e coun tr y and som e 300 g u e s ts . The C onvention w a s dedicated to th e m em ory o f th e U k rain ian p o et e ss L e sy a U k rain k a w h o se ce n te n a r y is b ein g observed th is year.
