L esia U k ra in k a is n o t only a p o etess of g re a t lite ra ry s ta tu re , b u t an a r tis t w ho u n ite d h e r cre- tiv e v ision w ith th e fa te o f h e r n a tiv e land. H e r w o rk h a d t r e m en d o u s im p a c t on th e U k ra in ian people’s f ig h t fo r lib eratio n , and h e r p o e try in sp ire d a n e n tir e U k ra in ia n g e n e ra tio n . T h e re fo re, th e 1 0 0 th a n n iv e rsa ry of h e r b ir th w ill be a m em o rab le c eleb ratio n fo r U k ra in ia n s e v e ry w h ere. T h e U N W L A is conscious of th is g re a t occasion a n d Is dedi c a tin g its C onvention to th e g re a t p o etess. B ra n c h e s n am ed in h e r h o n o r sh o u ld hold special o b serv an ces in th is y e a r. L uckily, w e h a v e av ailab le to us alm o st all h e r w o rk s in fin e ed itio n s. “ S p irit o f F la m e ,” a p u b licatio n of U N W L A a n d th e “ S elected W o rk s,” p u b lish ed in C anada, includes all th e d ra m a tic w o rk s o f L esia U k ra in k a . W e can select one or tw o o f h e r w o rk s fo r close s tu d y a t a s y m p o siu m or in a p an el discussion. In th is w ay o u r m em b ers w ill b e com e fa m ilia r w ith h e r w o rk s, u n d e rs ta n d h e r th e m e s, a p p re c ia te th e b e a u ty o f h e r p o etic ex p ressio n .
