Mrs. Miohalina Z. Tworischuk REPORT OF BRANCH 32 IN NEW ARK-IRVINGTON, N. J. A t their Septem ber meeting, our Branch elected a new board of officers. The new president, Mrs. Mi- chalina Z. Tworischuk, is a grad uate of Central H igh School of Newark, N.J., the Newark School of Fine and Industrial A rts, and gently the inevitable problems th a t arise in any fam ily and the U krainian home in particular. As a result, parents and children will be able increasingly to enj oy the rich emotional quality of their relationships and their U krainian culture and traditions. The Parent Education Project is designed to be continuous in every community, recognizing th at: 1. There are always new p ar ents. 2. Relationships between par ents and children change as chil dren progress through various age periods of development. 3. New knowledge and greater understanding become available through continuous research. W hat children will learn is ju st a question of the kind of parents who rear them . Parents are a strategic group of adults to be reached in the long range preservation of our U krainian heritage. Through their children parents have a direct influence on the future grow th of U krain. ianism. R utgers Evening School. Ukrainian Dishes In this issue we wish to share w ith our readers two more reci pes from N atalia K ostecka’s booklet “P astries,” which the UNW LA published in a U krain ian edition in 1969. Christm as Babka Уг cup butter Mt cup sugar 3 eggs 3 ozs. yeast 1 cup milk 4 cups flour Vz tsp. salt Combine butter w ith sugar and blend well. Beat eggs and add to butter-sugar m ixture. Blend all ingredients well. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm milk. Sift flour and add salt. Al ternate adding flour and yeast to butter m ixture. Beat batter w ith a wooden spoon and pour into flour-sprinkled bowl. Let stand for 1— i y 2 hours until doubled in bulk. T ransfer dough to buttered baking pan and let rise again for approx. 40 m inutes. Bake in a not-too hot oven at 350 degrees for 45 m inutes. Remove babka from oven and let cool. Punch Cake Cake: 8 egg yolks ІУ 4 cups confectioner’s sugar 1 lemon 8 egg whites ІУ 4 cups flour Filling-: 2 cups ground almonds 1*4 cups confectioner’s sugar 1 lemon rum Icing: 1 egg yolk 1 lemon 3 tsps. rum 1 tsp. butter confectioner’s sugar For cake batter: Beat egg yolks w ith sugar and add juice of 1 lemon. Beat egg whites until stiff and add to egg yolk m ixture. Add flour and blend well. Pour batter into but tered cake pan (sprinkle w ith flour) and bake at 300 degrees in a pre-heated oven. Cut cake in half. Dissolve some sugar in w ater, add lemon juice and rum . Sprinkle cake halves well. Spread w ith filling. Filling: Blanch almonds, peel, let dry, and grind to a power. Mix thor oughly w ith sugar, add lemon juice and rum to taste. Icing: Beat egg yolk w ith butter, add lemon juice and continue beating until m ixture becomes fluffy. Add rum and confection er’s sugar to thicken icing. Blend well and spread over cake. UKRAINIAN PRESS BALL An U krainian Press Ball will be held in Philadelphia on Janu ary 31, 1971.
