C urrently in th e w ork in g s ta g e is th e prep aration o f n ew em broid ery d is p la y s and costu m e m odels. T he M useum is open daily from 3-5 p.m., and on S atu rd ays and S un d ays from 1-5. R ecen tly th e M useum pub lished a ca ta lo g in th e U k rain ian and E n g lish la n g u a g es. W e are deeply a ffe c te d b y th e m isin fo rm a tio n about U k rain e w h ich fr eq u e n tly appears in th e A m erican p ress, and str iv e to correct each u n fo rtu n a te s itu a tio n w h en it arises. W e are aware, o f course, th a t th e r e is no im m ed iate rem ed y, b u t wTe plan to con tin ue our e f fo r ts in th e hope th a t ev e n tu a lly th e a t titu d e o f th e p ress w ill ch an ge. T he situ a tio n b ecom es even m ore seriou s w h en badly m is lea d in g in fo rm a tio n appears in book form , esp ecially w h en it p urports to be based on a u th e n tic sou rces. A recen t ca se in p oin t is T he C ooking o f R u ssia, one o f a ser ie s o f cookbooks pub lish ed b y T im e-L ife Inc. T he cookbook is a collection o f recipes o f fou r d istin c t p eop les o f th e U S S R — U k rain ian , R u ssian , B a ltic and G eorgian. A lth o u g h th e recipes are sep arated in fou r ch ap ters, th e y are collected un der th e t it le : T h e C ooking o f R u ssia . T he cover sh o w s an e x q u isite illu str a tio n o f U k rain ian E a ste r e g g s. W e fe e l th a t a p u b lish er as w ell k now n as T im e-L ife can a ffo rd su ch an u nd ertak in g. W e alread y h a v e a sound, w ell- resarch ed U k rain ian cookbook — “T rad itional U k rain ian Cook. e r y ” b y S avela S te c h y sh y n . It is w id ely d istrib u ted and ser v es as th e m o st a u th o r ita tiv e sourcebook on U k rain ian food s and cooking. T he L ife cookbook cite s Mrs. S te c h y s h y n ’s book as a source. T here are also oth er exc ellen t eth n ic cookbooks. T here is, fo r exam ple, a Slovak cookbook w h ich appeared in one m illion copies. T he P o lish -A m erica n s h ave also produced a cookbook o f P olish cooking. U n fo rtu n a te ly , it appears th a t th e s e p ub lication s are n ot p roof en ou gh o f eth n ic in d ivid u ality. It is fo r t h is reason th a t a U k rain ian cookbook p u b lish ed b y a m ajor p u b lish er is a m a tter o f g r e a t im portance.
