W ith 1970 approaching Branch 32 of the Ukrainian Women’s League of America is focusing all their attention and energy on the christening of their branch which is to be held on Sunday, February 25, 1970, at the U krainian Community Center 140 Prospect Avenue, I r vington, N. J. To implement its projects and resolutions and help solve crucial community problems, the GF- WC’s membership of volunteers is called upon to join in a n a tionwide crusade to foster indi vidual and group participation w ithin our communities through communication, awareness, dedi cated involvement and coordina tion of efforts for realizing m ax. imum results. bers of all regional branches will be invited. R efreshm ents will be served, and a musical program is being planned. This branch is English speak ing, and membership is open to all women over the age of 18, of Ukrainian descent. (Ladies of other nationalities m ay be elig ible if they are m arried to men of Ukrainian descent and are in terested in learning more about U krainian culture and back ground) . M eetings are held once a m onth at the Community Cen ter. The president is Mrs. Doro thy Losowy, who herself is a third generation American- Ukrainian. This group was organized to participate in educational and charitable work, and foster the preservation of national con sciousness, and the cultivation of U krainian traditions. Their p ro j ects for entertainm ent and fund raising, in the past, have been a wig show and bus trips to points of interest. There have also been lessons on the technique of painting U krainian E aster eggs, the intricacy of U krainian em broidery, mnd in the futu re they hope to study the a rt of m aking U krainian ceramics. This branch faithfully attends all events giv en by sister branches, and co operate diligently w ith th eir Re gional Council. C urrent events on U krainian affairs are often dis cussed at their m eetings so as to fam iliarize the members about w hat their local U krainian com m unity is promoting, and mem bers are encouraged to partici pate. Being “involved,” they feel, is the only road there can be to better understanding and coordi nation among the m any U krain ian factions. They are now plan ning to cooperate w ith the exhi bit of U krainian a rt and culture to be held at the Newark Mu seum in the m onth of March. On Columbus Day, Branch 32 sponsored a bus tour to h istori cal Philadelphia. The trip was planned for “togetherness,” so th a t many could enjoy the day w ith th eir children. Those who participated in the trip had a beautiful autum n day. Among points of interest seen were the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Betsy Ross House, and the F irst C hrist Church. A t 4 p.m., the group attended vespers a t the U krainian Im m aculate Concep tion Cathedral. Many then tour ed the Home for the Aged, which is close by, where some visited with friends, and others were in vited by the tenants to inspect this project. A tired but happy bus load returned home. A raffle of two dolls dressed in U krainian costumes was held, and won by Mrs. Stephanie Bernycz, of Irv ington.
