Close to 200 p e r sons viewed th e ex h ib it of e th nographic m aterials of th e U krainian com m unity in Y ugo slavia. The articles on display included ornam ental draw ings by Julian K olesar and h an d c rafted tex tiles from th e M u seum ’s extensive collection. A catalogue w as published in connection w ith th e exhibition. A nd w ith unasham ed te a rs stream in g down th e ir cheeks said : “Don’t fo rg et u s.” I know I speak fo r all th e A m ericans th e re w hen I s a y : every la st one of us cam e aw ay m uch rich er and I ’m w illing to b et th e U krainians we le ft be hind in Kiev feel exactly th e sam e w ay about us. Irene Lobur (nee T rem bly), born Jan . 18, 1927, passed aw ay A pril 21, 1969. A g ra d u ate of K ent S tate U., Irene ta u g h t a t B roadview E le m en tary School, n ear h er hom e in P arm a, Ohio. She w as a m em ber of St. V ladim ir’s U krainian O rthodox C hurch, and sang in th e choir. She w as active in UYL-NA, and once served as th e ir secretary. She devoted m uch tim e to our B ranch 60, and was p a st secre tary . T hrough th e years, she p articip ated in th e annual C aba re t N ites, perform in g comedy w hich endeared h er to th e audi ences. W e will rem em ber h er clown act, h e r black-faced A1 Jolson, or as a ro arin g 20’s fla p per. She w as filled w ith rig o r and hum or. H er untim ely death sh o rtly a fte r th e b irth of h er th ird child, a d au g h ter K ath erine Irene, stunned all. S ym pathy is extended to h er husband A ndrew , d au g h ter A n d rea (a m em ber of our new ly o r ganized U kr. Jr. M iss G roup), son John, and in fan t K atherin e Irene. T hree tim es d uring th e p a st eig h t y ears she has been a fin alist in th e D etro it E dison C om pany’s search fo r th e “Queen of th e K itchen.” On M arch 25th, she becam e th e 1969 Q ueen in D etro it E d i son’s E lectric L iving K itchens as p a rt of th e gala salute to “Worn, en W ho W ork W eek.” H er prize- w inning recipe, “H aw aii Chicken E xotic,” not only p u t th e crown M rs. M arian n a F o rtu n a on h er head, b u t also earned fo r h er a deluxe electric range. M iss F o rtun a, who is em ploy ed on th e C om puter B oard a t B urroughs C orporation, is n e t a stra n g e r in th e w inner’s c ir cle. She has won m ore th a n 200 ribbons fo r b ak in g a t th e M ichi gan S tate F air. In 1946, M arian na w as elected “B est Cook of th e W eek” in a Stokley-V an Cam ps contest. A m ong h e r laurels is th e “Cake Queen A w ard ” fo r excel lence in cake-m aking from th e Sw ansdown M illing Com pany and th e endorsem ent and publi cation of one of h er original r e cipes by th e “B etter H om es and G ardens M agazine.” M arianna F o rtu n a, d au g h ter of U krain ian p aren ts, w as born in F all R iver, M ass. b u t h as lived in D etroit, Mich, since she w as six years old. She is a m em ber of C h ap ter 37 of th e U N W LA and has shared h e r culinary a r tis try w ith th e m em bers by con ducting a vegetable-carving w orkshop and by helping to plan d esserts fo r th e club’s functions.
