Looking on are Mrs. Maria Du-shnyk and Mrs. Stefania Pushkar. CULINARY TERMS Over a period of tim e now “Our Life” has been working on a prim er of U krainian culinary term inology. There are m any foods which are known by dif ferent names in the various re gions of U kraine, and some have retained their foreign names. N othing is being done in U kraine about correcting this and the Russification of culinary term s is even encouraged. For this reason Mrs. N atalia Chaplenko, UNW LA Cultural Chairm an, has compiled a glos sary of U krainian culinary term s which is being printed in parts in the isues of “Our Life.” She has recently completed a sim ilar glossary for the English section of our magazine, which should prove interesting to m any of our readers. According to the Program Book of the 60 UNW LA Branch in Cleveland, Ohio a workshop of m aking Golden Christm as Angels was planned. Members have had to bring their own tools and m aterial and work un der the guidance of Mrs. Jennie H. Bochar, President. On November 7th an evening C hristm as Sparkle W ith Lights by the Cleveland Electric Illu m ination Company was planned. M embers were urged to bring canned goods or other groceries to m eeting or donate money for holiday baskets for less fortun- ates. HOME FOR TH E ELDERLY The D etroit Regional Council of the U krainian N ational W om en’s League of America, Inc. is proud to report to the commun ity at large th at it has acquired a site for the Home. The parcel of land (approxim ately three acres) is suitably located in W arren — w ithin easy reach of church, shopping area and hos pital. This is the first step for ward. W hat will the Home be like? We believe it will be com fortable, modern and pleasant for its oc cupants — men and women — of our com munity who will de sire to live in it. The architec tural plans are being worked on and we are benefiting from the plans of other such Homes (To ronto as an exam ple). The Home will have a chapel, recreational hall which will accommodate a m useum of U krainian folk art, a library and all necessary facili ties. The Building Fund Committee is engaged in the form ations of plans, ways and m eans of finan cial aid and other requirem ents of this great project. M eanwhile it is appealing to all m em bers of the D etroit com m unity to pledge m onetary support, for the sooner we have the required quota the faster we will break ground for the Building. For the benefit of the Build ing Fund several projects were planned and executed. On April 28th a Rum m age Sale in Ham- tram ck, w here clothing, jew elry, household item s and books were sold. On May 18th a Spring Fes tival and on Sept. 22nd a huge Raffle and Games P arty were planned. The Building Fund is headed by Mrs. A nastasia Volker, UN W LA V ice-President. M embers are M esdames O.
