The C h ap ter’s Ja n u a ry m eet ing w as held a t th e hom e of A ga th a O sadchuk. T h irteen m em bers w ere p resen t. T he F eb ru a ry m eetin g was held a t th e hom e of A n astasia V olker. F ifteen m em bers w ere p resent. Two guests w ere wel com ed: D orothy Y asinski and M ary G urski. H igh lig hts of th e m e e tin g : In terestin g slides of Soyuz U krainok m useum in New Y ork w ere show n and discussed by A n astasia V olker; on F ebru- recently em ig rated to W innipeg, to headline th e program . She w as th e w ife of a noted U k ra in ian h isto rian and h erself an ex ceptional actress in E urope and a form er pupil of S ta ry tsk a. This fascin atin g and m arvellously ta l ented wom an gave a stirrin g and u n fo rgettable perform ance. T here have been m any excellent com m em orative program s, b u t I still feel th a t th is p artic u lar one w as exceptional . . . al tho ug h I will ad m it I can’t be entirely objective. It tak es ju s t few m inutes of tim e to item ize a club’s activities fo r 20 years, b u t those few m in utes rep resen t countless hours of planning and w ork by m any people. W e do not seek th e re w ard of applause or of individual recognition, fo r we have th e deep a ry 8, a F ashion Show w as held a t th e L atin Q u arter by th e F ed eration of W om ens Clubs. La- verne Veilleux, m em ber of C hap te r 37 modeled. A n astasia Vol ker, M yrtle Slaby and M rs. Med- vid attended th e show. L avern e V eilleu x satisfaction of h aving a “com m itm en t,” of h aving been “involved,” of “co n trib u tin g ,” and of th e self knowledge th a t one is on th is e a rth w ith a “reason for b eing” . . . th e reali zation of a purposeful life. I would like to th a n k C hapter 58 fo r honoring me w ith th e in v itatio n to p resen t th e ir club h is tory , of w hich I shared a sm all p a rt in th e early years. The “h isto ry book” of C hapter 58 is, I am sure, only h alf com pleted. T here are m any m ore pages to be w ritten , and I know th ey will continue n a m nohi lita to be recorded w ith th e accom plishm ents of th e m em bers. I t is m y hope th a t Olena Teli- h a would feel th a t we have done honor to h er nam e. C O N V E N T IO N COMMITTEE N E W S The them e of th e XV U N W LA Convention — “F ig h tin g fo r h u m an rig h ts h ere and abroad” — ties in w ith th e In tern atio n al H um an R ig h ts Y ear. O ur p a r ticipation in th e Convention will point out our concern fo r hum an freedom . * Convention delegates should re g iste r w ith th e U N W LA E x ecutive B oard in Philadelphia. The Convention fee is $25.00 fo r each delegate. A ds and g re et ings fo r th e Convention Book should be sen t to th e Convention C om m ittee in Chicago, 936 N. W estern Ave. * * * The XV Convention will be held on July 5-7, 1968, a t th e C onrad H ilton H otel in Chicago.
