SOUTH A M E R IC A N R E G IO N A L C O N F E R E N C E IN BRA Z IL The th ird R egional Conference of W FUW O w as held in C uri tiba, Brazil, on Jun e 24 to 29, 1967. M rs. Irene Paw lykow ska of Canada, a m em ber of th e W orld F ederation of U krainian W om en's O rganization, re p re sented th e H eadq uarters. M rs. Olga H orachuk, W FUW O Vice P resid en t fo r South A m erica, called th e Conference, and th e U krainian W om en’s O rganiza tion of B razil m ade all th e a r rang em ents and hosted th e dele g ates who arrived from A rgen tina. The them e of th e C onfer ence was “M odern m ethods of w ork.” The South A m erica Region is th e th ird larg est te rrito ry (the U. S. is firs t and C anada second) w here our w om en’s organiza tions have been active fo r gene rations. E very region has its peculiar needs and problem s. M rs. Irene Paw lykow ska, who visited m any tow ns, villages, and ru ra l settle m ents, rep o rts th a t while U k rainian s in th e tow ns are able to m aintain a fairly satisfacto ry living stand ard , th e farm ers of ten find them selves on th e brink of poverty. The need fo r a new aproach to social w elfare and ed ucation fo r th e needy w as dis cussed in g re a t detail a t th e Con ference a p a rt from o th er vital organizational problem s. The wom en in South A m erica felt th a t th ey needed closer con ta c ts w ith th e W orld F ederation. They sent m any delegates: M rs. E. B. M azepa of Brazil, Dr. L. M 'akaruhka,Ivanytska, M rs. Ol ga B andura and M rs. K otulska of A rgentina, and M rs. L uba Po- chynok of V enezuela to th e W orld C ongress of F ree U k rain ians (N ovem ber, 1967) to atten d ing in U kraine. In addition, th ey are actively engaged in w ork w ith national and in tern atio nal w om en’s organizations th u s con trib u tin g to th e en tire w om en’s m ovem ent. H . P . th e W orld W om en’s Session in order to g et acquainted w ith th e w ork of th e F ederation here in th e U . S. and to m eet w ith dele g ates from other countries. All R egional Conferences w hich have been held to date (Pan-A m erican, E uropean and South A m erican) have been very successful. The W orld F ed era tion hopes to continue th is face- to-face exchange of ideas. M rs. M rs. S tefania P u sh k ar, P ro gram C hairm an of W FUW O, attended th e Conven tion a t which a v ariety of com m unity problem s w ere discussed. On Ju ne 26-27, 1967, GFWC called a conference in Sydney, A ustralia, Mrs„ M aria H rudka, V ice-President of th e U krainian W om en’s A ssociation of A u stra lia and M rs. Te^iana Babiy, PR O fficer of UW A (N.S.W .) a t tended. The Conference which focused on W orld Peace, b ro ug ht to g eth er A m erican and A u stra lian wom en and added g reatly to fu rth e rin g A m erican-A ustralian friendship. E xp o 67: W FUW O took p a rt in th e U krainian W om en’s W eek held on July 22-27,1967, a t Expo 67 in M ontreal, Canada. The W eek w as sponsored by all U k rain ian wom en’s organizations in C anada and included fashion shows, exhibits, m usical recitals and poetry readings. In tern ation al W om en’s A lli ance : The XXI T riennial C onfer ence of th e IW A was held in London on A ug ust 1-10, 1967. M rs. H elen S. Prociuk, In te rn a tional O fficer of W FUW O a t tended (see re p o rt). T he W orld U n ion o f C atholic W om en’s O rgan ization s held its Conference in Rom e on O ctober 5-10, 1967. The U krainian C ath olic W om en’s League of C anada w as represented by its P resid en t M rs. Irene Paw lykow ska and B oard m em ber Miss Irene Ma- lycka. A re p o rt about th ese activi ties of U krainian women leaders w as given a t a m eeting, called by W FU W O ’s F inancial Com m ittee in T oronto on Oct. 21, 1967. M rs. S. P u sh k ar spoke on h er participatio n on th e In te rn a tional W om en’s Council C onfer ence in T eheran, 1966; M rs. I. Paw lykow ska spoke on h er re cent p articipatio n in th e Con ference of WUCWO in Rome, and M rs. H. P rociuk rep o rted in detail on th e IW A Congress, held in London. T here w ere 400 peo ple present. M rs.
