W e w ere im press ed by th e beau ty of U krainian folk a rt item s, stem m ing from d iffe ren t regions of U kraine. It w as in tere stin g to h ear th a t th e beginning of these collections dates from th e Chicago W orld F a ir in 1933. In 1927 th e U N W LA B oard decided to acquire a com plete collection of folk a rt in U kraine in order to p resent it a t th e W orld F air. A fte r th e U kraine last sum m er and has a trem endous rep o rt to give w hich will include h er slides of th e en tire trip . H ere’s hoping th a t 37, 58 and 81 will g et h er fo r a p rogram on th e W est Side. U N W L A B u letin W orld F a ir th e collection served a t d ifferen t UNW LA exhibits u ntil w hen th e Folk A rt M useum of UNW LA was opened. D uring th is to u r we understood w hat is th e m eaning of th is M u seum of U krainian Folk A rt in New Y ork C ity and w hy should we support th is idea. A fte r th e to u r of th e M useum th e bus took us to Lincoln Cen ter, w here we w ere m et by guides and escorted th ro u g h th is b eautiful complex. We en joyed hearin g a p a rt of a p er form ance by th e N.Y. Sym phony in a soundproof balcony and strolled about in th e flagstone azalea gardens. A ra ffle fo r a U krainian cera mic b u tterd ish was held on th e bus ride going home. M rs. Polan- sky of B ranch 24 in E lizabeth w as th e lucky w inner. W e expresed our th an k s to M rs. M aria Rzepecky, UNW LA Folk A rt C hairm an and sent a donation of $10 to th e M useum F und. D o ro th y L ozow y OUR E A STER D ISPLA Y In M arch 1968 our UNW LA B ranch 60 in Cleveland took p a rt in a celebration of th e opening of a shopping center enclosed Mall. In conjunction w ith th is opening a B aking C ontest was held. Groups p artic ip a tin g w ere invited to have a display table and sell bak ery goods. H alf of th e proceeds from th e sale w ere to go to a local C ancer Home. Our Club decided to set th is table up according to th e U k rainian E a ste r trad itio n . On it w ere placed all foods trad itio n al ly blessed and eaten on E a ste r Sunday. It w as a beau tifu l dis play and our Club received firs t prize. A nd now I would like to stress w h at a g re a t p a rt M iss Irene K ashubynska had in m aking th is display possible. She aided us in obtaining th e correct linens, dishes and foods. She also baked th e “p ask a” and “bab ka” and m ade th e cheese mold. The touches th a t m ade it tru ly tra d i tional, w ere to h er credit. Miss Irene K ashubynska has been a valuable asset to our area and we feel fo rtu n a te in having her around to call upon w hen we need help. She is very sw eet and gracious and we th in k very highly of her. T hank you for m aking h er a p a rt of th e U N W LA B oard and available to us.
