Les- sya K urylenko-W achnianyn, th e noted p ian ist who w as having h er annual pupils’ recital. F ol low ing a w arm welcome to th e g u est by M rs. Muc, fo r th e U N W LA, and by M r. A ugustin R udnyk, on beh alf of th e UNA, M rs. D ushnyck said a few w ords, to w hich M rs. Muc added h e r views. A fte r a delectable col lation, prepared by th e “Soyu- zanky,” a m eeting w as held w ith B r. 55 officers, a t w hich public relations and cultu ral m a tte rs w ere discussed. M rs. Muc was re cently reelected presid en t of th e Los A ngeles branch, w hich is planning an exhibit of folk art, a H aw aiian N ig h t festival, and an evening p rog ram fo r young ste rs who have com pleted a dance course. M rs. Muc is also editor of a house organ “Holos” ( “Voice” ) fo r h er branch. The gracious ho sp itality of M r. and M rs. A lexander Muc shall alw ays be recalled w ith pleasure by th e visitor, as well as th a t of Sally Sylchak who took th e g u est on a to u r of Hol lywood, K n o tt’s G host Town, D isneyland and th e s ta rs ’ hom es in B everly Hills. A t M rs. P u sh k a r’s D enver m eeting w ith m em bers of B ranch 75 and Rev. P aul Smal, p asto r of T ran sfig u ratio n of O ur Lord C atholic C hurch, a dis cussion w as held on th e possibil ity of organizing day centers fo r preschool children. L ate r a reception w as held fo r M rs. P u sh k a r a t w hich she welcomed by th e b ranch president, M rs. S tefan ia Levchenko. A t th e sub sequent m eeting m any topics w ere considered — th e feasibil ity of form in g a w elfare com m ittee fo r th e whole com m un ity, a preschool day cen ter and a book club. U krainian m others in D enver are especially in te r ested in a social service p ro ject to serve th e youth in th e com m unity. (J u s t a note here too about M rs. D ushnyck’s stop over in Chicago to discuss, ever so briefly, U N W LA m a tte rs to pass on to M rs. P u sh k ar, dem on s tra tin g th e “Soyuzanka” sp irit so splendidly.) F ro m th e ir v isits to th e th ree w estern branches, M rs. P u sh k ar and M rs. D ushnyck gained a new in sig h t into th is d ista n t sector of th e U N W LA organization while k n ittin g closer ties w ith th e officers and m em bership, who w ere all so hospitable in th e ir welcome to th e guests. BRANCH 72 C ELEB R A TES F IF T H A N N IV ER SA R Y In a settin g of candlelight and elegant decor, m em bers of B ranch 72 of th e U k rainian N a tional W om en’s League of A m erica graciously greeted guests as th ey g ath ered in th e Sky top Ballroom of N ew Y ork’s S ta tle r H ilton H otel to atten d a dinner-dance held on th e evening of M ay 27th. The dinner-dance w as sig nifi can t because it celebrated th e occasion of th e organization’s fifth an n iv ersary and aided such w o rthy causes as th e Jo sy f C ar dinal Slipyj Fund, th e U k rain ian In stitu te of A m erica Schol arsh ip Fund, and th e U N W LA Scholarship Fund. All proceeds derived from th e a ffa ir w ere do nated to th e above-nam ed funds.
