She o u t lined th e activities of m em ber groups and of W F F president, M rs. G eraldine F itch , who w as unable to atten d , and spoke on th e sta tu s of wom en in com m u nist-occupied countries of W F F m em bers, such as U kraine, Cze choslovakia, R um ania and Y u goslavia. M rs. D ushnyck sta te d th e U k rain ian people are g reatly con cerned w ith th e sin iste r e ffo rts of th e Soviets to destroy th e fund am ental historical docu m ents re la tin g to U krain ian in dependence and th a t th e Com m u n ists are com m itting arson in lib raries and archives in Kiev and o th er cities, and p ersistin g in th e ir R ussification program s. T his has caused th e U krainian people to re sist such genocidal policy, w hich in tu rn h as renew ed persecution and im prison m ent of young w riters as well as th e tra n s fe r of thousands of youths into so-called “volun^ te e r” w ork in Siberia and K a zak hstan . The C om m unists are also destroying U k rain ian cul tu re w hich th e collective fa rm w orkers do not have th e possibil ity to develop. T hus, U krainian w om en in th e free w orld are tr y ing to p reserve th e ir cultural h eritag e by every m eans — such as th e U N W LA estab lishing th e p erm an en t U krain ian Folk A rt M useum a t th e U k rian ian In sti tu te of A m erica in NYC, w hich A t th e conclusion of th e GFWC convention, M rs. P u sh k ar flew to D enver and M rs. D ushnyck to Los Angeles. _ M rs. D ushnyck w as m et a t th e a irp o rt by M rs. T h at evening th e y all a t tended a dance a t th e U krainian C ultural C enter w hich w as spon- th e GFW C m em bership w as in vited to visit. The speaker also rep orted on th e falling b irth ra te in R um ania and on economic conditions in Y ugoslavia and Czechoslovakia, and asked th e GFW C m em bership n o t to fo r g et th e C aptive N ations. E xcerpts of th ese rep o rts and of th e o th er 26 in tern atio n al re p o rtin g delegates will appear in th e In tern atio n al Clubs News B ulletin of th e GFW C w hich is sen t to all its in tern atio n al clubs. A fte r th a t M rs. P u sh k ar took p a rt in a docum entary film on th e GFW C Convention w hich w as produced by th e N ational A ssociation of M anufacturers. Besides a convention session, th ey appeared w ith several o th er in tern atio n al delegates, in sored by th e U krainian C hair Studies to g eth er w ith th e U N W LA and UNA . H ere th e v isito r m et th e M ykola N ovaks (he is a com m unity leader) and Mike M azurki, our film and TV actor, wro atten d s m any U krainian functions . . . to be w ith his fellow U krainians and to enjoy U k rain ian food, fo r w hich he longs since his m o th er’s p ass ing. M ike invited M rs. Sylchak and th e v isitor fo r lunch a t th e U niversal C ity C om m issary costum es, in a scene w here th ey introduced them selves and said a few w ords about th e ir respec tive organizations. The film will be show n to sta te federations. B oth delegates atten ded th e Cal ifo rn ia Golden Gala B anquet and th e C ontinental B rea k fast fo r in tern atio n al delegates. U krainian w om en’s organiza tions are afforded an ideal fo r um to p resen t to th e GFW C m em bership th e asp iration s and activities of our U krainian wom en in th e free world, to stren g th en channels of com m u nication and to n u rtu re old friend sh ip s and develop new ones w ith wom en from around th e globe, all of w hich serves to help m eet th e challenges and problem s of to d ay ’s complex world.
