A book exhibit was held on both days by M rs. N atalia Chap- lenko, UNW LA C ultural C hair m an. Also books, pam phlets, em broidery designs, etc. w ere exhibited in th e M useum . L eaf lets about th e M useum in U k rain ian and E nglish w ere handed th e guests as th ey signed a V is ito r’s Book. On T hursday, A pril 6, a press conference took place, attended by rep o rters from several p a pers, am ong th em A m erican, L ithuanian, H ungarian, L atin A m erican and U krainian (U. S. and C anada) and a re p resen ta tive of a radio station, who had all received a press release sent out by M rs. D ushnyck, who con ducted th e conference and out lined th e background of th e M u seum . M rs. Padoch led th e re  p o rters on a M useum to u r and explained th e a rtifa c ts to them . A rticles about th e M useum opening appeared in th e N. Y. Tim es, W orld Jo urn al T ribune, N. Y. Daily News, Long Island P ress and S tar-Jo urnal, etc., w hile Radio L ib erty beam ed th e new s to U kraine. Voice of A m er ica carried th e news, too, as did several NYC radio statio n s. In  quiries continue from th e news m edia w hich received th e press release, while th e public, having read or h eard th e new s, is com ing in to view th e M useum . The U krainian p ress is also giving excellent coverage to th e M u seum opening. M rs. M aria Rzepecky headed a com m ittee w hich arran g ed th e M useum opening in w hich th e NY area U N W LA branches co operated. W ith th e continued coopera tion of th e U N W LA m em bership and th e UIA , th e U krainian Folk A rt M useum can become a cul tu ra l landm ark in N ew Y ork C ity, th e cultu ral capital of th e world. T his will be possible, es pecially, w ith th e dedicated ef fo rts of th e B oard of D irectors of th e M useum — M r. Dzus, M rs. P u sh k ar and M rs. H ordyn sky, its talented a rt director, as well as th e m em bers of th e B oard, M rs. Rzepecky, M rs. Ha- lyna H oshow sky, M rs. Stella Dzus, M rs. K ochan and M rs. P et- riw sky — to whom we all owe a vote of th an k s. The p resen t M useum is b u t th e beginning of th e perm anent U krainian Folk A rt M useum in N Y C ; th e UIA plans to even tually m ake m ore room s avail able fo r th e scores, th u s realiz ing a tw o-fold purpose — to p re serve fo r th e A m erican-born U k rain ian generations th e cultu ra l h eritag e of th e ir fo refath e rs, and secondly, to acquaint m ore A m ericans w ith U krainian cul tu re, th u s insu rin g its recogni tion and acceptance in th e m ain stream of A m erica’s cultural p attern .
