U K R A IN IA N W E E K AT EXPO 67 Ukrainian Women's Session Expo 67 — is th e g re a te st a t tractio n of th is year. T here h ardly is a fam ily left th a t has not, as yet, visited th e exhibi tion, or a t least endeavored to view a p artic u la r aspect of it th ro u g h th e television m edia. Indeed, C anada has achieved trem endous success in its cen tennial celebration. The U krainian com m unity of C anada, likewise, is m ark in g its 75th an n iversary. Upon th is oc casion a com m em orative and properly inscribed stone has been cem ented into th e P arlia m ent Building, also included in th e celebration has been an official proclam ation of observ ance of U krainian W eek a t Expo, w hich began w ith a grand m arch and shows perform ed by youths. T his w as a v ery solem n and th rillin g m om ent th a t m arked th e role th a t th e U k rain ian com m unity played in th a t country. It is in terestin g to note th e g re a t contributions and tireless effo rts of th e U krainian wom en in p rep arin g th e festiv ities du ring th a t week. F rom July 24th to th e 30th of th is year a com m ittee w as established a t E xpo’s H ospitality C enter, th a t consisted of rep resen tativ es of U k rain ian w om en’s organiza tions. It provided en tertain m en t of both vocal and in stru m en tal a rtists, and a display of books and w orks of a rt of fam ous U k rain ian w riters, p ain ters and sculptors, also an exhibition of E a ste r egg decorations and em broideries, w hich even included descriptive suggestions of ap plying folk em broideries on p resen t day fashions. T hroughout th e entire week rep resen tativ e guests from m any o th er C anadian w om en’s clubs cam e to v isit th e U krain ian program , th ere. M any noted jo u rn alists, a rtists, and renow n In th e A pril issue of “Our L ife” we inform ed our readers concerning th e preparation s go ing into th e forthcom ing W om en’s Session, th a t will tak e place as a re su lt of th e m eeting of th e W orld C ongress of F ree U k rain ians, w hich will convene in New York. T his Session has been called into being by th e W orld F ederatio n of W om en’s O rgani zation (W FU W O ), issuing an appeal to all U krainian w om an hood of th e en tire free world. The P lanning C om m ittee of WTFUW O has already estab lish ed plans fo r th e Session. The Session h as been planned to con vene on N ovem ber 15, 1967. It will be composed of tw o p arts. The firs t p a rt will be deliberated on by th e C om m ittees, dedicated to th e m any phase endeavors evolving in a w om an’s life. I t is quite evident th a t th ere will be 8 (eigh t) C om m ittees, in all. T hey are as follow s: The O rgan izational (C oordinating) Com m ittee, th e C ultural Com m ittee, th e E ducation Com m ittee, th e Folk A rt Com m ittee, th e So cial C are C om m ittee, th e P ress R elations and Soviet Studies C om m ittee. E ach one will deliv er two or th re e lectures sta tin g th e final proposals w hich could serve as th e basis fo r resolu tions. The Second P a rt of th e Con ference — will become th e plen ary Session consisting of all th e p resen t delegates. The P ro g ram of th is Second P a rt will be com posed of th re e lectures relatin g upon th e follow ing su b jects: m usicians also g ath ered there. T his w as a g ran d occasion to p resen t th e U krainian culture, as well as an opportune tim e fo r visito rs to become acquainted w ith th e sp iritu al life of U k raine. 1) “The U krain ian W om en’s M ovem ent in R etrospect of th e 50th Y ear of Proclaim ed U k rain ian Statehood, and th e 50th A nniversary of th e E qual R ights of th e U krainian W om an .” 2) “The Life of a U krainian W om an U nder th e Soviet R e gim e and Our A ttem p ts to Aid H er and H er T errible F a te .” The basic reference used fo r th is lec tu re was provided and a ttrib u t ed by th e Soviet S tudy Section. 3) “The Role of th e U k rain ian W om an in th e Life of th e U krainian C om m unity in th e F ree W orld.” This lecture should enlighten and p ro ject th e th in g s w hich are expected from U k rain ian wom anhood severed (displaced) from th e ir dear hom eland, in every aspect of life. The chief m aterial fo r th is lecture was provided by each C om m ittee, individually. C om m ittees have already be gun th e ta sk under th e lead er ship of th e ir respective p resi dent. P resum ably 2, 3, or m ore lectures will be read touching upon th e carefully prepared them es of th e designated sub jects, according to th e degree of in te re st w hich th ey arouse. Some C om m ittees will be fused to g eth er a t th e Session, fo r instance, th e C ultural Com m ittee will be joined w ith th e Folk A rt C om m ittee or th e O rganizational (C oordinating) C om m ittee will be united w ith th e R elations Com m ittee. The C om m ittee of R earing and So viet Studies will function and deliberate independently, having quite a large am ount of d iffe r ent research m aterial to handle. In th a t w ay th e prep aratio ns fo r th e forthcom ing Session will b ring fo rth and uncover a g re a t am ount of invaluable m aterial th a t will enhance our knowledge and inform ation concerning th e НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ — ВЕРЕСЕНЬ, 1967 19
