CONTACT WITH ENGLISH SPEAKING BRANCHES In an introductory letter ad dressed to the English-speaking Branches, Mrs. A nastasia Vol- ker, UNW LA Vice-President ad vised tem of a proposed program for the year and asked for sug gestions from mem bers. She plans to com municate m onthly w ith the Branches, thus opening up a two-way channel of cooper ation. Enclosed was also a short ad dress about m em bership cam paigns. It will help to explore new and old techniques of gain ing members. A leader does not say “Get going!” Instead, a leader says “Let’s go!” and leads the way. A leader does not walk behind with a whip but is out in front with a banner. NCW BIENNIAL MEETING, 1966 On October 11, 12, and 13 a Biennial M eeting of the N ation al Council of W omen was held in New York City, The lectures presented during the first day focused attention on the efforts being made by organized wom en’s clubs on behalf of crime control. Speakers included judges, teachers, editors and volunteers who have achieved prominence in the field fo reha bilitation. A “W oman of Con science” Award was presented to Hon. Genevieve Blatt, Secretary of Internal A ffairs of the State of Pennsylvania. On the second day a report was given of the Triennial M eet ing in Iran. Reports of NCW mem ber organizations followed. Mrs. Stephania Pushkar spoke on behalf of the UNW LA, which was also represented by Mrs. M ary Dushnyck, Public Rela tions Chairm an. Reports on civic rights and on legislation relating to women and youth were made on October 13. Thus the Biennial M eeting gave not only the highlights of NCW activity but provided an insight into im portant problems of everyday life as well.
