Irene Padoch, Chairm an THE “YOUNG LOOK” There is a “young look” in to day’s fashion which has been created by a group of young French and English designers, and their snappy creations are becoming favorites of young elegants everywhere. Skirts are shorter than ever, reaching way above the knee. The fit is easy and swinging, very appropriate for the fast “go-go” life of young people. The designs are creative and m ost refreshing. There are un lim ited color combinations w ith a great feeling for geometric form and bold plaids for day tim e clothes. Soft paisley chif fon, m isty silk voile and lace are th e m aterials used for dainty fem inine evening skimmers. The clothes have a Victorian “little girl” look, w ith ruffles, bows, lace trim , and rom antic long sleeves. Necklines are usually either very high or plunging, and the w aist is well defined. W hite organdy and pique col lars and cuffs adorn m any sim ple dresses. Lacy crochet sweat ers and dresses add a soft youth ful touch. All of these “little girl” fashions are worn with tex- tured hose, preferably white, and very low heeled, strapped shoes. H ardly any jew elry is worn, and handbags are tiny. These youthful styles are really very charm ing and offer a fresh, appealing look to today’s fashions. O. L. S. C o u n cilw o m an M ary B eck ELECTION CAMPAIGN U krainian women have shown g reat interest in the current election campaign to the D etroit City Council. This fall M ary Beck, a long-time City Council woman and sponsor of the W F- UWO’s L iterary Prize, is once again seeking re-election. Miss Beck has served in D etroit’s City Council since 1949, when she be came the first woman to hold this post. Although her position is assured and she is highly popular among the voters, we would like to rem ind our read ers of her m any accomplish m ents and contributions to the Ukrainian-Am erican commun ity. MANOR COLLEGE NEEDS BOOKS Manor Junior College’s large student enrollment calls for more books. We can assure you th a t your books will be greatly appreciated and will be well used. Our need is great and our ability to ac quire them is limited. НАШЕ ЖИТТЯ — ЖО-ВТВНЬ, 1966 21
