W ask iw ; M iss R y w a k . Ukrainian Fashion Show Once again this year Branch 53 of Astoria, N. Y. participated in the U krainian Day program a t the New York State Pavilion of the New York W orld’s F air by sponsoring a Fashion Show of Embroidered Dresses. The show was introduced by a display of 3 original costumes from the Po- dilla, Poltava and Hutzulia re gions of Ukraine which were worn by the Misses Bezkorovay- ney, Kotyk, and Wowk. The dresses and blouses th a t follow ed were in many styles, fabrics and colors; some original and some ready-made w ith embroi dery added. Miss Gloria Paproski wore a white two-piece sharkskin, em broidered at the V-neck and bo dice hem, made by her m other of Branch 66 in Connecticut. She carried a m atching bag. A lightw eight cream wool, made and modelled by Mrs. M aria W askiw of Branch 82, Bronx, was embroidered in a colorful Hutzul design on the bodice. A beige linen (loaned by Mrs. Rose Fenchynsky) embroidered in deep red at the neck, surplice closing, and on the pockets and sleeves, and a white sleeveless cotton w ith jacket (loaned by Mrs. M aria Tur) delicately adorned at the neck and around the jacket, were modelled by Mrs. Helen Yanicki and Miss Ve ra Muzychka. Miss Anna Rywak modelled a beige linen dress made and embroidered by her aunt, Mrs. Rywak some years ago. The dress, which has a wide band of embroidery in shades of red down one side and across the bottom, was remodelled into a modern shift by Miss Rywak’s m other, Mrs. Catherine Rywak. Mrs. Diane K ernetsky wore an original grey silk th a t she adorn ed with a narrow band of “ny- zynka” at the neck, sleeves and pockets. Two ready-made dress es embroidered by Mrs. Alexan dra Riznyk, a black crepe shift with a band of deep pink down the front, and a navy cotton with red roses on the bosom bow, were modelled by Miss Gloria Matlock and Miss Olga Liteplo. Another ready-made dress and jacket in navy and white rayon, w ith two narrow rose designs embroidered along the front of the jacket by Mrs. Eudokia Lyktey, was born by Mrs. Anne Kushnir. A forest green cotton with a chartreuse design on the sleeve bands, made and embroidered by Mrs. Riznyk, was modelled by Miss Alexandra E. Riznyk. Two blouses, recently received from the Ukraine, a white crepe and a yellow thin taffeta, were modelled by Miss Luba Kuzy- shyn and Miss Tam ara Myky tycz. Mrs. Dora Pifko, of Branch 72 wore a cream crepe blouse w ith long sleeves embroidered in red and black. The Fashion Show was very well received by the large audi ence. Mrs. Alexandra L.
