Ukrainian Woman Creative Work OUR LIST OF GRADUATES Once again in our June edition we sta rte d to publish a list of U krainian g rad u ates from our colleges and universities. In th e Philadelphia area alone we have a large num ber of g rad u ates who have received B.A. and B.S. de grees. In addition, th ere is one wom an doctor and one g rad u ate w ith a M aster’s degree in com p arativ e lite ratu re s. M ost of these young women are eith er dau g h ters of U N W LA m em bers or belong to U krainian fam ilies prom inent in civic affairs. T here is, how ever, a large num ber of recent g rad u ates who fo r one reason or an o th er have not grow n up in a U krainian com m unity and consequently have little contact w ith it. M any of th em are sincerely in terested in th e land of th e ir fo refath ers, and th ey honor and respect U k rain ian trad itio n s. I t is only proper th a t they, too, should be included in our list of new g rad uates. W e appeal to our pioneer m em bers to send in th e nam es of th e ir g ran d d au g h ters who have recently com pleted univer sity studies. H elp us to locate these young grad u ates of th e th ird generation! One m ore year of civic w ork is behind us. 1964/65 w as a fru itfu l year full of new under tak in g s and m uch creative work. In 1964 a new B ranch, No. 85 w as form ed in C arteret, N. J. The B ranch, whose m em bers are all native-born, is show ing prom ise of em erging as one of our m ost productive B ranches. In fact, we m ay be ju stly proud of all our E n g 1 і s h-speaking B ranches. In th e No. 5 edition of “Our L ife” fo r 1965 we reported on th e firs t m eeting of th e L eader ship W orkshop Series of B ranch 72. The E nglish-language pro g ram w as dedicated to T aras Shevchenko, and proved to be both in tere stin g and instructive. B ranch 72 plans to continue w ith th e W orkshop Series, and it is hoped th a t it will do so w ith g re a t success. A nother m aj or achievem ent of th e p a st year was th e appear ance of th e UNW LA a t th e New Y ork’s W orld’s F air. The p a rti cipation of th e U N W LA was m ade possible th ro u g h th e com bined effo rts of th e E xecutive B oard and th e New Y ork Re gional Council, b u t a large share of th e honors should also go to th e tw o E nglish-speaking B ran ches of th e New Y ork area, B ranches 53 and 72, who spared n eith er tim e nor effo rt to ensure com plete success fo r th e U krain ian group. These, how ever, are only two of our la te st accom plishm ents. W hat about some of th e earlier successes of th e E nglish-speak ing B ranches? W e are rem inded of th e U krainian em broidery p ro ject of B ranch 37, th e E a s t er egg dem onstrations of B ranch 53, th e U N W LA M other’s Day of B ranch 52, th e M usicale of B ranch 72, th e Picnic fo r P arish C hildren sponsored by B ranch 61, and th e dance perform ances of B ranch 85 a t th e W orld’s F air. All th ese events and p ro j ects w ere th e re su lt of creative thinking, careful planning, and h ard w ork. In each case th e B ranches took th e initiativ e in th e p rep aratio n of th e various projects. As we have already com m ented upon th e individual pro jects in previous editions of our m agazine, we would a t th is tim e m erely w ish to stress th e creative aspect of all th ese un dertakings. I t is th is very ta l en t fo r creative w ork w hich serves as our b est g u aran tee of th e continued vigorous grow th and developm ent of these B ranches.
