There are many other item s which a ttrac t young readers. Actual problems of the U krainian community, old Uk rainian customs, achievements of U krainian women. All these are found in our English pages. Give them a little attention and you will appreciate it. SOYUZANKA’S PEN There are m any talents throughout the Branches of UNWLA. Here and there are skilled artists who are embroid ering, or painting E aster eggs, as well as ceramics. And some tim es members try to compose poems or feuilletons for the their social meetings. THE MARY BECK LITERARY PRIZE OF WFUWO The L iterary Prize of The World Federation of U krainian Women's Organizations, recent ly founded by Miss M ary Beck, President of D etroit City Coun cil awarded its first two prizes of $100.00 each for a short story to the U krainian w riters, Olga Mak, living in Curitiba, B razil; and the music teacher, Hala La- hodynska, living in Buffalo, N.Y. Mrs. Olga Mak, a well known w riter, created a picture of the Princess Olga, a U krainian ruler in the early era of our history. Mrs. Hala Lahodynska, a literary beginner, wrote a plot of U krain ian resistance against German occupation in World W ar II. Beside the two awards, seven short stories were singled as w orthy of honorable mention.
