Summer is far behind us, and club season is on in full swing. Have you planned a good fall program for your branch to include: (1) Study and review of the XII Convention resolutions, and the new constitution. Major constitutional changes adopted will have an effect on your chapter, and the regional council set-up. Are you aware why these changes were necessary, and why your understand ing of them is so vital to your organization and its growth. (2) October is the month of Regional Council Conferences, and it should be part of the Junior Branches’ responsibility to lend your hand and talent to the program planning for the conference. We hope you have done so, as the League needs your support and benefit of your knowledge. (3)' Every senior and junior Branch can stand a transfusion — new blood — new members. On October 14 a Mass for the Silent Church was celebrated. The Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of ,Canada, a member of WUCWO was represented there by Miss Martha Kalytovska from Paris. AN HISTORICAL DRESS In celebrating this year’s anni versary of Hetman Mazepa, the Ukrainian community’s interest in his life and times has taken form in a revival of widely diver sified fields in arts and crafts. An exhibition of churches and buildings is being prepared. Young Ukrainian girls have re created the intricately embroid ered garment of his period. A Pl-ast circle of young girls “Kalyna” in Newark, N. J., copied the young girl’s dress of the Ma zepa period. Their model was an historical portrait so difficult to work out they had to study Uk rainian painters and historians on its details; and get a designer to make the pattern for them. Fab ric similar to that period is di'f- Young wom an’s attire in Ukraine in XVIII century fieult to obtain. Finally, a heavy brocade in shades of blue was found. The girls donated the funds for the dress themselves; and worked collectively on em broidering the linen shirt. The dress was presentd at a Plast Rally in Newark, N. J., where an amazed and delighted audience congratulated these girls, and made them feel justly proud of their achievement. In accomplishing this intricate piece of work they learned much of the life and times of Hetman Mazepa, and to appreciate him, not only as a great and high-minded man in Ukrainian history, but as one who stands in the panorama of world figures.
