Marie Levesque du Rostu P resid en t of th e W orld U n ion o f C atholic W o m e n ’s O rg a n iza tio n s The congress of the World Union of Catholic Women’s Or ganizations which was held sever al months ago a't Rome, revealed many interesting personages among the delegates from all parts of the world. However, the president of the Union was the most outstanding figure a n d thus mos't attention was paid her. She is'Marie Levesque du Rostu. I have known her for five years, since the first World Congress of Lay Apostolate. When I saw her now again, I realized with de light that the years that slipped by did not leave any vestiges at her appearance. This elegant P a risian, always dressed in black, has been gray ever since I first met her. But in her eyes, speech, gestures she has remained the same youthful, energetic and live ly person. All day long she ap pears unwearying. Being con stantly busy and preoccupied, she hardly could be drawn near for an interview. Yet I secured necessary infor mation at the Secretariat of the Union. Here is her brief biogra phy and the course of life of the leader of the Catholic women of the world. Marie Levesque du Rostu was the fourth in a family of ten chil dren. When she was still very young, her mother, whom she is happy enough to have to this day, sent her to teach catechism to the children of poor districts. Hence she quickly learned the way of life and the needs of div erse classes of society. It was in 1918 that she began to follow her vocation of Catholic action. In 1922 she took part, al ready as the president of the Youth Association, in Luxemburg in the foundation of a section of Feminine Youth. She is promoted to vice-president of this move ment. In 1933 she became Secre tary General of the Women’s League of French Catholic Ac tion, and in 1935 a member of the Bureau of the World Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations. In 1952 she was elected General President. Therefore, it is through working for 17 years in the movement, that she formed M iss M arie Levesque du Rostu P resident of the W orld U nion of Catholic W om en’s O rganizations herself to the great intenational task to which she now dedicates her whole life. Mademoiselle du Rostu acts al so as Secretary General of the Social and Familial Institute for Housework, as well as for the Federation of Social and Familial Housework Centers which man ages ten schools for Staff-train ing and hundreds of centers throughout the whole of France, as well as schools and centers on all continents. Thus we see that she is working strenuously in the variety of ways mostly for the cause of Ca tholic Action in France as well as the world over. M aria T o m a sh iv sk a M M M B A Z A A R IN P A R IS An annual International Bazaar arranged by the Mothers’ World Movement, took place in the ha'll of Aeroclu'b at Paris, France, in December, 1957. It was held un der auspices of 'the President of France and Grand Duchess of Luxemburg. Numerous member-organiza- tions of MMM had set up their stands with interesting articles from their countries. The public was keenly interested in the dis play and selected many items for Christmas gifts. The Ukrainian women also took part in the bazaar. The Alliance of Ukrainian Women of France, which had previously participat ed in several MMM Bazaars, in troduced this time a separate ta ble with Ukrainian baking which was specially mentioned in the program. Another Ukrainian stand serv ed for displaying canvasses of Ukrainian painters, Ukrainian embroidery and Christmas cards. The Ukrainian ladies devoted much effort and work to make their exhibit a success. The bak ing delighted the visitors. During the official dinner served for em inent guests, the Ukrainian torte won general approval. This year’s MMM Bazaar was of singular significance because it prepared the funds for the MMM Study Days to be arranged in Paris from 9th to 15th of June. We shall report on the program and the goal of .Study Days in the next issue of OUR LIFE.
