UKRAINIAN WOMAN OUR ENGLISH COLUMN Ukrainian Congress Committee On June 1 and 2 there was held an annual 'conference of the U k rainian Congress Comittee in New York City. This Ukrainian central organization, is embracing- most of Ukrainian organizations and guiding the Americans of Ukrainian origin in their united social and political activities. The Ukrainian women are primarily represented in UCC by the U k rainian National W om en’s League of America, which has one mem ber in Executive Com mittee and several in the Council of UCC. The report presented at the conference covered tw o years of the action of UCC. The action ex tended over various spheres, like American domestic affairs, Uk rainian internal m atters, and in ternational problems. In all these fields the UCC has manifested initiative and appreciative endea vors. To mention only the mem orial to summit conference at Geneva, the participation in the convocation of Americans of E ast European origin, the pro nouncement of a number of state ments and resolutions, including some in the Senate and the House of Representatives, all relative to the defense of the Ukrainian na tion, subjugated by red Moscow. The most notew orthy event during that period of tim e was the form ing of American Conference for Liberation o.f Non-Russian Peoples in USSR, which is co ordinating the actions of separate nationality groups in United States. The situation of Ukraine in this sphere is of forem ost im portance. In internal Ukrainian relations in our country the UOC is in an overhead position to coordinate the social life of Ukrainian com munities throughout the United States. It embraces all Ukrainian political groups and organiza tions. In most of the cities where there are sizable Ukrainian com munities, there have been organ ized filiations comprising most of local societies, in order to assist the central UCC. The UNW LA is its member not only, but its branches are, w her ever feasible, joining the local fi liations, so as to assist them in their work. In time this cooperation has grown to be an im portant factor, for all participants in the activi ties acquire the experience of working on a larger and more differentiated scope. For example, they are m ututally assisting in the founding of the Museum of Im m i gration or creating of a moving exhibit of the culture of Ukraine. Numerous displays of Ukrainian folk art, arranged by local bran ches of UCC, were effected with the assistance of the UNW LA Branches. A nother field where the U k rainian women are sincerely co operating with UOC, is the collec tion of money for the National Fund. This fund is the economic foundation O'f UOC on which the work and grow th of this national organization is based. The UN W LA Branches are continually and busily engaged in supporting the National Fund and are among the first to pay their obligations. Hence the Ukrainian women were eagerly interested in the proceedings of the annual con ference of UCC. They will result in still more ardent cooperation which will prove, without doubt, the value and w orth of the U k rainian women’s organization for general good of the U krainian nation. S. P. DEDICATION OF TOMBSTONE On June 2 there was dedicated a tombstone on the grave of the late Olena Kisilevska, the first President of the W orld Federa tion of Ukrainian W omen’s Orga- niations (W FU W O ), at the ceme- tary in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Besides the representatives of U krainian women’s organizations many U krainians from O ttaw a and other localities came to take part in the dedication. All Ukrainian women’s organi zations contributed tow ard the erecting of a tombstone on grave of late Olena Kisilevska, famed leader of the Ukrainian feminist movement for the last seven dec ades in W est Ukraine.
