A special commission had been formed for the purpose of direct ing the oluto which is to care for an apartment, with a refreshment room, and for programs to enter tain the members as well as the guests. It has not been calcu, kit ed that the gatherings have to bring monetary gain, thus all pro ceeds have usually been utilized for the outfitting of the club. The U.W .A. of A. is in this fashion carrying out an important function amid the Ukrainians of Australia. It backs up and keeps up the social life within the Uk rainian community, which is of great significance to newcomers in such remote land as Australia. At the start there had been only 6 racial groups taking part in the exhibit, while there are now 30 of such participating units. All of them are displaying the mod els of the folk art of their native countries and are informing the visitors of their accomplishments. The UNW LA first took part in this exposition in 1926. Our Organization made then a show of Ukrainian handicraft that aroused wide and keen interest. Since then — off and on — (our absence at the exhibit had always been brought about by other im portant actions) the UNWLA has been displaying Ukrainian spe cimens of art at the Women’s In ternational Exposition in New York. This year the UNW LA has constituted a special committee which is preparing a Ukrainian stand. This action is in conformity to the latest national act. The Ukrainian National W o men’s League of America, wish ing likewise to lend its assistance in this humanitarian and brother ly endeavor, raised the slogan: — Every UNW LA Branch shall bring over one Ukrainian family. The Branches responded with favorable disposition and with readiness to perform this assign ment. The members agreed among themselves, and separate persons assumed the obligation to sign the assurance, to find a lodging, and to secure a job, or jobs. Hence most of those signing the assurances, were the newcomers, who had been able to do it as soon as they have become U.S. citizens. The members who have not as yet been, naturalized, did their best to aid in the action. The actual resettlement is only setting out right now. Thus the UNW LA Branches are getting ready to meet the new arrivals. Some Branches, while assuming the obligations, expressed their desire to sponsor merely single persons, or families with 2 chil dren only because they could not dispose of more room in their apartments. Yet the majority of the Branches did not offer any reservations. We are certain that our newly arrived brothers and sisters will be welcomed into our community and it will be then up to them not alone to work to earn their daily bread but likewise to devote their efforts toward the work fo>r the good of the Ukrain ian cause. Our Branches deserve heartfelt congratulations for this their hu manitarian and patriotic deed.
