DEAR JUNIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS The U krainian National W om en’s League of America had been founded thirty years back through the efforts of your m others. It united them, inexperienced young women as they had been, into one sisterhood. They started to work along the lines of self-education so as to grow to be better citizens of our new country as well as to help our people in the old m other land in its striving to gain free dom and independence. They have never been forgetting the land of their fathers and m others. Their work within UNW LA has ce mented them into one large fam ily. You have been w itnessing the sincerity of our pioneers who have m utually been sharing their joys and ftiheir sorrows. You 'have been grow ing in dif ferent circum stances. You were able to acquire education with ease, for there are no obstacles to it in the free country. You are cit izens o.f a great and m ighty land th at is now the leader of the free world. For the most part you have already the families of your own and are taking care of them. However, your position im pos es likewise some serious obliga tions upon you. The joyous days of youth are passing by and you are becoming aware that dubious m oments are also in istore for everybody. True, you are never hindered in the upbringing oif your children, but you should al ways remember that there are millions o.f m others in U kraine who do not possess such human and hum ane freedom. Hence you are obliged to try your best and give some aid and com fort to U k rainian women in their native land, for they are not as lucky as you are. A person who tends to dissoci ate from social, life and work does not amount to much. Only in union there is strength. And sole ly while united we can afford to achieve som ething w orth having. T hat’s why the Ukrainian N ation al W omen’s League of America was organized. But it would not continue to live, to work and to grow if your young voices were not to be ’heard w ithin our walls. We must work together with you and hand down to you our great mission, for our ideals must live on. We, Ukrainian women have set our goal to work for our own b et term ent and for freedom of oiur old country with great devotion, not with calculation for material gain, and therefore there are no women in our m idst who might seek som ething to benefit m ater ially. We are all patriots and we are devoting our efforts to a good cause. We see all over the world so much evil and distress that we cannot remain silent and inactive. W e must also contribute some thing w orth while tow ard the b et ter tom orrow. Let us then streng then our ranks and work heartily for our good cause. Let us act to gether, in our society, w here ev ery member is also grow ing with the grow th o-f society.
