DEAR JUNIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS On Sunday, March 18, the Ukrainian National Women s League of America gave honor and glory to 500 Ukrainian women, slave labor ers of Kingiri, in Kazakhstan, murdered iby the Soviet NKVD. On this day there were manifestations in many cities throughout the United States, which drew large, audiences. Various Ukrainian wo men's organizations jointly observed this sad commemoration. At these mournful observance appropriate resolutions were adopt ed which were prepared .by UNWLA. The resolutions denounced the bolshevik terroristic regime responsible for the massacre of 500 women slave laborers. Due to local circufstances not all UNWLA Branches were able to arrange the commemoration on March 18, but those that failed to do so will follow soon and we trust that no Branch will neglect, for any reason, to arrange this commemoration of the tragedy of Ukrainian women un der foreign and cruel domination. The Executive Committee of UNWLA is submitting for consider ation by the UNWLA Regional Councils a proposal to call in October regional conferences. The gathering of delegates and members of the region will aid in discussing and examining the projects of current acti vities. The Central Office of UNWLA will send out information relative to these questions. However, the Regional Councils should set the date and reserve a hall for the conference as soon as possible. W e are very happy to let our readers know that again a new Branch of UNW LA has been organized. It is Branch 66 in New Haven, Connecticut. Its first meeting took place on March 4 last which was attended by 43 members. Greetings to Mrs. Nadia Mikitey, the chairman of the Branch, and to all other members, and best wishes of success in all their patriotic en deavors. RADIO PROGRAMS OF UNW LA BRANCHES The Regional Council of U N W LA at D etroit and Branch 22 of UNW LA have had their radio program s for some time which have already gained wide popular ity,. The program s help serve the objectives of the organization. DESIGNING EASTER EGGS Branch 28 of UNW LA of New ark, N. J., has of late completed its course of designing E aster eggs. The course was under the direction of Mrs- Isidora Levko- vich who brought this skill from Ukraine. Mrs. Levkovich is a graduate of the course of studies of plastic art at Lviv where she also learn ed the technique of batik which is very close to designing E aster eggs. In her opinion the persons who wish to know the art of design- ing-eggs, ought to attend a course O'f 15 lectures. NEW BOOKS BY KNOWN AUTHORS Halina Zhuriba, the renowned Ukrainian authoress who came to United States with D P’s and has been living ever since in Phil adelphia, has recently published her new book titled “Wide W orld.” It is an autobiographic story which is just the first vol ume of a trilogy to be completed in the near future. Dokia Humenna, another dis tinguished w riter, has likewise published lately her new book en titled “K hresehaty Y ar” (cross- shaped ravine). In this long novel th e author depicts th.e life in the city of Kiev, capital of Ukraine, during Nazi occupation* It is a probing analysis of humans and events. The events, as set forth by the author, which are not yet ,forgotten by many U krainians who escaped to tlhe Free W orld, are exciting many a discussion.
