UKRAINIAN WOMAN OUR ENGLISH COLUMN 12 O'CLOCK When the midnight before the Xew Year is drawing near, we ;ire raising up our -brimful cups of wine. As the clock strikes twelve and the glasses give forth a clink, also num'berless human longings and wishes clash with one anoth er. The wine that flows at the ushering in of New Year, becomes a magic potion for those longing and craving. However, the clam orous New Year's night passes, the daybreak bursts forth and on a sudden there reappears the real ity of the ensuing year which has to be filled iin 'by action. And then everyone treads his own shaped out course. At this time of Christmas and New Year come forward the hopes and aspirations of the Uk rainian woman exiled from her homeland. She also presses a gl'ass in her hand w'hen the bells strike twelve. Still s'he does fall under the notice of 'bright lights, rain of prayers of the twelfth hour. She is visualizing the tragic reality of her distant native land. She sees at this moment her mother or sis ter wibo in dire distress with tears and fears face the New Year. What shall it bring them? New suffering and tortures? New vili fication of the truism's of faith and of the nation? The lips are tremiblimg, yet the tears sto,p flow ing, alone the yearning in

They desire to acquaint the wo- menV associations of all free countries with the paramount problems that .stir the Ukrainian womanhood for whom they wish to win the understanding among the women of other lands.
