The marriage rituals of today compared with those o-f the past, are almost too brief and unimpor tant to laud. Of course, some beauty and pagentry are there, but these exist only as a material manifestation of a common-pi ace procedure. On the other hand, countries which possess Whole some cultures have a wealth o'f tradition. The Ukraine is ome of these countries. Ukrainians realiz ing the importance of such a step as marriage stress the rituals of the sacrament so that it will be remembered constantly for its ul timate importance. The pagean try with which their marriage is performed is a treasure of enthu siastic symbolism. The entire ritual is divided into three main ceremonies: the “sva- tania” or match-making, the en gagement, and the wedding itself. Although the three act's seem to be separate forms, they are close ly interwoven. The first deal's with the legal affairs and the ag reements between the two fami lies.
