CHRISTMAS CAROLS The Ukrainian Christmas car ols, having- come directly from the fo'lk—-the people of the land, are symbolic of the temperament and soul of the Ukrainians. In these songs we find all the vari ous emotions with which the U k rainian views bis religions expe rience. We can hear expressed in the “Kolyada” feelings of awe, hope, joy, and faith. They are feelings which are basic and pro found, hence the caroTs are sim ple but unusually moving. And it is no accident that we have no Christmas songs which are of a frivil'ous, gleeful nature. The Ukrainian looks upon the birth of Christ as a wonder, a miracle, a solemn and mysterious event and lie sings a melody of a dark and sonorous mood such as we find in “Boh predvichni” or DEAR JUNIOR LEAGUE MEMBERS I am very happy to have been appointed editor of the English section of your magazine. Here’s where I let myself in for a lot of work but very pleasant work. 1 feel that my job sbou'ld be a real editorial job—one which requires me to print all the material which you send in or which you request to have printed. This is your page —your magazine. W hat you want printed here should appear here. Do you want a sounding board for your opinions on Ukrainian women in America? W ant to let all the Branches know what you have accomplished? W ant to com ment on SUA policies or func tions? Do you have a great idea for raising funds? How about news on what your members have accomplished in the business or professional world? How about a decorating idea or a new game to keep the tots busy on raii^ days? If you have a problem which you tbink other young U k rainian women might have in common with you why not share your idea's on solving it ? Just write it all down, send it in, and we’lil print it.
