This time its the N. Y. -Council' of Ukrainian National Women's League of Am erica. The women of this organiza tion are not just interested in bring ing to us first-hand information of their own patriotic brave nation but are always on the alert to offer their services to our federated group in any capacity which benefits us. They have always been willing and eager to help us in our entertain ment efforts, giving exhibitions of their native folk dances, and letting us hear their Ukrainian music, both vocal and instrumental, in this way letting us see, hear, and appreciate how gay and happy Uk rainian life used to be—and still could be—if only they were free to live as they choose. Along with these generous contributions of en tertainment, they have taken active part in every philanthropic under taking our Federation has sponsor ed. “A brief outline of the history aims and objectives of*this organi zation will interest you all, Гт sure. These five original groups spread to all the larger Ukrainian- American centers and in May, 1932, when the first Ukrainian Women's Congress, was held in the United States, they 'could boast, of 42 branches throughout th;e U.S. “To show their splendid spirit of co-operation arid unity, at this first congress these Ukrainian women pledged themselves to cooperate with all othet American Women's organizations in defense of women's rights; to support movements for the betterment of interantional re lations and for the furtherance of the high ideals of freedom and equality. They pledged themselves to assist in every way all the wo men of Ukrainian nationality both here in the United States and abroad, and to acquaint all the Uk rainian American youth-and the American public in general, with the culture of Ukraine. These branches hold regular meet ings, national conventions, and fol low a, definite program of both ed ucational and social activities. “Any talk of this organization would be incomplete without at least a. mention of «its work on be half of the Ukrainian people abroad. “This group has collected thou sands of dollars for such purposes as aid to invalids of the Ukrainian War for. Independence, war or phans, victims of floods and famine and the epidemics which usually follow these disasters. “In November 1948 a World Congress of Ukrainian Women was held in the United States in the city of Philadelphia. The theme of the Congress was well chosen. It was “Freedom and In dependence," sanctity .of personal liberty, family life, worship and ed ucation. Delegates from all over the world attended and according to a report given to me by Mrs. Bencal, who attended all the meet ings, the Congress was a decided success. At that Congress the World Federation of Ukrainian .Organizations has been formed. “Ive just time to say that the N. Y.
