EDITOR, MISS MILDRED MILANOWICZ— 151 Hopkins Avenue Jersey City 6, New Jersey To the Young Ukrainian American Mother ; On Mother's Day Only now, as you look upon your own daughter, or your son, only now, do you really think of your own mother and all she meant. Now you remember that once, when you demanded: “Mother, give me food, I’m hungry!” — your mother fed you, sometimes go ing without food herself, yet you never questioned why. When once you demanded: “Mother, dress me well!” — your mother managed to dress you well. You never questioned how. When once you demanded: “Mother, send me to school, I want knowledge, an education!” — your mother scrimped and saved and sent you^ through school. You may have felt the pinch yourself by then, but you never questioned her sacrifices. Only now do you fully realize what a mother means, and look ing now upon your own child, you wonder — “How much will my own child demand unquestioningly of me?” You will also, admit to yourself that your child will receive as much from you as you can possibly give and more. $That is the way with mothers. Like your Ukrainian mother, you will also demand certain basic rights for your own child, as your mother did for you. The right to live in freedom, free from fear, from want. The right to practice your own religion. The right to choose your own school. The right to let your child speak the Ukrainian language or any other language. If you are of the fortunate generation of Ukrainian Americans that has stored up wonderful memories of such things as choir prac tices or church services beautiful with majestic music, memories of staging plays or elaborate concerts, memories of traveling to various states to youth conventions, meeting new friends, memories of folk- dancing 4— you will never deprive your own child of the right to store up the same memories. Njo, you cannot deprive your child of such riches. You will even go further and assure the continuity of our rich heritage by sup porting a center to produce teachers of our Ukrainian culture. Your child will some day demand knowledge of things Ukrainian. Be ready to supply that demand. Help establish a center to teach Uk rainian Cultural Courses in America. N. Y. UKRAINIAN VETERANS — PAUSE, READ, PONDER AND THEN ACT How many of you veterans since your return to civilian sta tus have asked yoursdves this pertinent question? WHICH VETERAN ORGANI ZATION SHALL I JOIN? Naturally it is a question which requires much thought betore it is answered. For immediately crops up several other queries. 1—WHY should I join a veter an organization? 2—WHAT benefits shall I and my family derive? 3—WILL I find people there with the same interests as I pos sess at this organization? 4 —HOW can I best contribute to my Ukrainian folks in the U. S. and to my country at large ? 5—THROUGH what veteran organization can I best perpetu ate the comradeship and the tra dition of my military service? 6—DOES the group which I am considering have any com- muni$tic tendencies, or any other sympathies which may be Un- un-American ? Upon careful consideration of the above questions—this is how many Veterans of Ukrainian ex traction have answered the above. Deliberating many pros and cons we can best serve the ideals through which Veterans Organi zation we can best serve the ideals that * every Ukrainian American Ex-Service man should stand for; and that is our.coun-o try, perpetuation of true Spirit of comradeship and to assist our people to the better ways of life in these United States. The Veterans Organization known as the Ukrainian-Amer- ican War Veterans of the United States, is the organization through which we can best serve our ideals.
