UKRAINIAN D.P. WOMEN ASK OUR IMMEDIATE AID (Continued from page 6a) making, embroideries, doll making, and other handcraft. 7. Presenting art exhibits of Uk rainian art and handcraft, that are invariably successful. 8. Establishing and running kit chens in camps, notably kitch ens for children. 9. Furnishing information to and making contacts with foreign women’s organizations. These Ukrainian women, de spite their bitter, desperate flight and their present unfortunate predicament, still have an un broken spirit, and immediately af ter the fall of Germany, proceed ed with their work, making, no distinctions between religious, political or other leanings. This is the first time in 25 yea* that a true union of all Ukrainian women, from all Ukrainian terri tories, has been possible in Eu rope, although it has been accom plished outside of Ukraine prop er, by its emigres, thus affording all Ukrainian women to recog nize and appreciate each other. This organization cooperates to the fullest extent with the Euro pean Ukrainian Emigrants Cent ral Committee and with the Uk rainian Red Cross. From their sister organizations in the United States and Canada, these women in the Displaced Persons camps of Europe send a special appeal for olir moral sup port in their battle against forced repatriation and to gain the right of asylum for themselves. T|o give fthis moral support, they ask our women's organiza tions to: 1. Call protest meetings and send petitions to the proper autho rities on behalf of their cause. To publicize their plight. 2. Make every effort to bring over the Ukrainian orphans through the Red Cross, the Ca tholic Charities Committees, etc. This is an immediate pro blem, where danger threatens, - as their former rulers are seek ing them. 3. Grant stipends by various wo men’s organizations for study in this country, to young Uk rainian student girls. 4. Establish industries to employ skilled workers, as for weav ing, rug-making and doll-mak ing. 5. Create employment for profes sionals, like teachers, etc. 6. Establish a center to import and furnish exhibit material. 7. Solicit material for our wom en’s press from European writers. 8. Demand right of asylum for Ukrainian Displaced Persons. A very favorable impression was made on the unusually large number of guests, by the Ukrain ian exhibit and dances and no less were they impressed by the Ukrainian recipes contained in a valuable cook-book, containing over 80 recipes for dishes from all nationalities. The Ukrainian recipes were contributed by Mrs. Anna Nastuk, Mrs. Palagia Dze ra, Mrs. Alice Prychoda and Sis ter Mary of the St. John Ukrain ian Greek Catholic Church of Morton St., Newark, N. J. Hear ty congratulations are in ordt for the Newark Soyuz Ukrainok’s latest worthy effort. A big man is usually a little man who makes use of an oppor tunity. Competition is between those trying to be great, not between those who are. Crash — bank — tinkle! Final ly both cars came to a stop. A man with a badge and an air of authority drew near. “How did you happen to crash into tha. car ?” asked the officer. “It was the exasperator, it was ■ to blame,” said the meek offend er. “Exasperator!” exclaimed the the officer; “you mean ‘accelera tor.” “No, I don’t,” said the driver. “Then what part of the car is the ‘exasperator?’” “Well,” said the driver with a sick smile, “it usually drives from the rear seat.” Voter: “Why, I wouldn’t vote for you if you were Saint Peter himself!” Candidate: “If I were Saint Peter, you couldn’t vote fo'r me — you wouldn’t be in my dis trict.” True scholarship consists in knowing not what things exist, but what they mean; it is not memory but judgment.
