October 10, 2026: The Ukrainian National Women’s League of America (UNWLA) strongly condemns the Trump Administration’s announcement on October 9, 2026, of a waiver and license to allow Russia to sell millions of tons of diesel fuel to American and global markets.
The Trump Administration’s decision means that instead of exerting economic pressure on russia to stop its war of aggression against Ukraine, the U.S. would effectively be funding russia’s war machine, which has targeted Ukrainian cities, hospitals, and schools and financed the abduction, illegal transfer, militarization, and re-education of Ukrainian children.
This does not further the legitimate interests of the United States. It does not follow the will of the American people, who by a large majority support more economic pressure and sanctions on russia. It does not follow the directive and intent of Congress, which, less than a month ago, passed the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, and which Act was signed into law by the President. That law provides that anyone buying russian energy or supplies russia’s war effort is subject to sanctions by the United States.
The decision to allow the sale and purchase of russian oil does not put America first. It actively harms our ally, Ukraine. The only winner from this decision is russia.
UNWLA calls on the President to reverse this decision, and calls on Congress to exercise all means at its disposal to effectuate reversal.
