On August 24, UNWLA Branches across the United States joined their communities in marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s restored independence. 🇺🇦
Together with the American Coalition for Ukraine, UNWLA launched a nationwide campaign providing local communities with an actionable toolkit to help them mark Ukraine’s Independence Day.
The effort inspired more than 125 events across the country, spotlighted on an interactive digital map that visualized the collective impact of communities standing with Ukraine nationwide.
Through the leadership and advocacy of UNWLA members, official proclamations recognizing Ukrainian Independence Day were issued by state and local governments across the country. These proclamations reflect the relationships our members have built with elected officials and their continued work to keep Ukraine visible and its voice heard in their communities.
UNWLA members also organized and participated in flag raisings, rallies, concerts, community gatherings, and the illumination of local landmarks in blue and yellow. From city halls to public squares, Soyuzianky once again demonstrated what grassroots leadership looks like – bringing communities together around Ukraine and reminding our neighbors that the freedom, sovereignty, and dignity Ukrainians defend today are values deeply shared by Americans.
Branch 113, NYC, obtained a proclamation issued by Senator Charles E. Schumer honoring Ukraine’s Independence Day and recognizing “[…] the outstanding efforts of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America and its continued support and commitment to Ukraine and its people.”
Branch 30, Yonkers, NY, obtained a proclamation issued by the State Senator Shelley B. Mayer, 37th Senate District honoring Ukraine’s Independence Day and recognizing “[…] The Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, Westchester Branch 30 for exemplary service in the community and state, and thus urge all citizens to take this opportunity to appreciate this outstanding organization as we join with them in this meaningful commemoration.”
Branch 30, Yonkers, NY, obtained a proclamation issued by the US Representative George Latimer, NY-16 honoring Ukraine’s Independence day and recognizing UNWLA’s continued humanitarian support for Ukrainians affected by the war and its commitment to Ukrainian education and cultural preservation in the United States and abroad.
