The Ukrainian National Women’s League of America (UNWLA), Branch 98, is proud to announce the upcoming screening of the acclaimed film “Mr. Jones” at the JFK Library, located at 500 Hoes Lane, in Piscataway, NJ on Sunday, November 12th at 1:30 p.m. in the Kennedy Meeting Room.As the longest running and largest Ukrainian women’s organization in the United States, the UNWLA continues to uphold its commitment to educating the community about critical historical events. The screening of “Mr. Jones,” a powerful drama highlighting the life of the intrepid journalist Gareth Jones and his courageous efforts to uncover the truth about the Holodomor, serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of preserving historical memory and advocating for truth and justice. The Holodomor, also known as the Great Ukrainian Famine, was a man-made famine (genocide) in the Soviet Ukraine from 1932 to 1933 that killed 3 – 7.5 million Ukrainians. Each November, Ukrainians solemnly honor and pay tribute to the millions that suffered and died during the Holodomor: “death by hunger.”

The event will feature esteemed speaker and discussion leader Michael Andrec, a distinguished member of the Academy of Certified Archivists and the accomplished archivist at the Ukrainian History and Education Center (UHEC) in Somerset, NJ since 2010. With his profound expertise in historical archives and exhibitions, including the recent showcase “Depicting Genocide: 20th Century Responses to the Holodomor,” Mr. Andrec has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of Ukraine and raising awareness about significant historical events.

In recognition of his exceptional contributions to archival work and advocacy, Michael Andrec, alongside the UHEC, was awarded the prestigious Innovative Archives Award from the New Jersey Caucus of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference in 2022. This esteemed recognition underscores the vital role played by Mr. Andrec and the UHEC in amplifying historical narratives and promoting educational initiatives, especially in the wake of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
